       I havefoundthatmanypeoplestilldonotseetheobviouspowerthatLinkedINhasasaworkingtool,andIregularlyspendcountlesscoachinghourshelpingpeopleestablishapresenceonLinkedIN,includinghowtofindandconnecttopeoplethatmightbeabletofurthertheircareers–whichisveryeasy,bytheway.Togiveyouanideaofhowpowerfulitcanbe,IhavetwopersonalexamplesofhowLinkedINgroupswereinstrumentaltojobseekers:

First:Myhusband’scousinusedittoidentifyandultimatelysecureanewpositionbyjoiningagroupfocusedontheindustryinwhichhewantedtowork.

Iamnotsureifyouhavenoticed,buttherearenewgroupspoppinguponLinkedINallthetime,nottomentiontheexistinggroups,someofwhichhavehundredsofthousandsofmembers.Thisisanawesomewaytoconnect(albeitvirtually)withpeople.Shareideas;encouragecollaboration;establishinteractions.Youcanusethegroupstoletpeopleknowthatyouarelooking,generateinterestinyourbackground,whilealsohelpingotherpeople.Wearealwaysonajourneyofsomesortoranother.Youneverknowthekindofinteractionsoneofyourideaswillspark.Joiningagroupwillprovideaforumfordiscussionandsometimesdebate.It’sallgoodthough!Youneverknowwhenaconnectioncanturnintosomethinglikeapartnershiporresultinabeneficialintroduction.

Also,asecretwaytoconnecttosomeoneoutofyourworkistodowhatmyfrienddidandjoinagroupthattheybelongtoandconnecttohimorherthatway. Afterall,LinkedINisaworkingtoolandwhatbetterwaytoconnectthanfindinggroupswithsimilarinterestsorgoalsthatmatchyourown,inyourindustryortheindustryyouwanttobein,orjustsocial-typeworks.
