OsDREB1 Gene from Rice Enhances Cold Tolerance in Tobacco

TheOsDREB1genefromriceencodesatranscriptionfactorbelongingtotheDREBPtranscriptionfactorsubfamily.ManyDREBPtranscriptionfactorsregulategeneexpressioninresponsetodrought,high-salt,andcoldstressesbybindingspecificallytothedehydration-responsiveelement(DRE).DRE-bindingproteins,suchasCBF1,DREB1A,andDREB2A,havebeenclonedfromArabidopsisthalianaandhavebeenprovedtoplayanimportantroleinstressresponseofArabidopsisandseveralotherplants.Inthisstudy,theOsDREB1genewastransferredtotobaccoplantsbytheAgrobacterium-mediatedtransfermethod,and16transgenicplantswereidentified.PCRanalysisdemonstratesthattheforeigngeneshavebeenintegratedintothetobaccogenome.Resultsoffreezingstressexperimentsindicatethatthetransgenicplantshaveenhancedcoldtolerance.
